August 18-20, 2006- A Gathering of the Laity, at Lake Junaluska. The theme this year is “Follow Jesus, Make Disciples, Transform the World”. Brochures are available at the District Office.
August 24 through 26th - Academy for Disaster Response sponsored by Western North Carolina Conference Disaster Response Office and the MERCI Center of the North Carolina Conference. It will include “hands on” opportunity to prepare yourselves and your churches for meeting the needs that arise during a disaster. Classes “Chain saw”, “Mucking Out”, “Tarping” as well as review the basics of preparing for a disaster.
September 9th- District Youth Rally for 2006. Event planned by Palestine UMC. Saturday at 3:00 p.m. Music will be provided by “Thyrst” a youth contemporary group from 1st UMC in Asheboro. Guest Speaker will be Rev. Alan DiDio of Encounter Christ Church in Albemarle. Hotdogs & Hamburgers will be provided. Invite all youth to commit their lives to Christ in discipleship.
September 18th – 20th – Albemarle, Northeast, North Wilkesboro Districts District Event at Springmaid Beach Resort, Myrtle Beach. “God was in Christ reconciling the world unto himself…and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us” (2 Corinthians 5:19). Yet, the church often reflects the polarization and conflicts that characterize the modern world. Learn from the New Testament, our Wesleyan tradition, and one another as you seek to be faithful stewards of the message of reconciliation. October 5, 2006- A Stewardship Seminar will be held from 9am to 3pm for all Clergy in the Albemarle, Salisbury and Lexington Districts. Seminar is REQUIRED by all clergy to attend.
